Police are investigating after Linda Stevenson, the wife of former First Lady Jill Biden’s ex-husband, was found dead inside her Delaware home not long after law enforcement responded to investigate a domestic dispute call late Sunday night.
According to a statement from the New Castle County police, Stevenson, 64 was found unresponsive on the floor of her Oak Hill home after responding to around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday night. Stevenson’s husband, Bill, was married to the former first lady between 1970 and 1975.
First responders attempted to resuscitate her but she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Stevenson’s daughter, Christina Vettori, claimed in a statement to the Daily Mail that authorities are investigating her mother’s death as a potential murder. “It’s still a murder investigation,” she told the outlet in a brief statement, adding, “I would not like to talk at this time.
New Castle County Police denied claims of a murder probe, stating that the case is being treated as a “death investigation” in a brief press release. They did, however, confirm that the case is being investigated by the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit.
“Linda Stevenson’s body has been turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of her death,” police added.
An emergency response dispatch obtained by TMZ mentioned a potential “cardiac arrest.” No charges have been announced in connection with Stevenson’s death and the investigation is ongoing.

Jill Biden (then Jill Jacobs) was married to Bill Stevenson from 1970 to 1975. The couple separated in the fall of 1974, with Jill moving out of their marital home at that time, amid what has been described as irreconcilable differences and a contentious divorce process involving disputes over assets like Stevenson’s popular bar, The Stone Balloon.
Bill Stevenson has long alleged that Jill had an affair with Joe Biden beginning in 1974. The Bides have denied this claim and instead contend that the presidential couple met on a blind date in 1975.
