REPORT: GOP Congresswoman Set To Meet With MTG Amid Retirement Rumors

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is reportedly set to meet with her soon to be retired colleague, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), to discuss potential retirement before her term ends. Mace seemingly confirmed some aspects of the story but disputed the retirement aspect of the story in an X post.

According to a report from the New York Times, Mace claims she is fed up with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and his leadership style. The article describes Mace as Johnson’s “most vocal critic” and adds that she may consider retirement before her term ends.

To that end, she plans to meet with Rep. Greene to discuss the possibility. Greene — another longtime opponent of Speaker Johnson — announced last month that she will be retiring in early January after weeks of trashing the Trump Administration and congressional Republicans on left-wing media outlets.

According to the report, Mace and Greene are accusing Johnson of sexism, claiming that women are undervalued and repeatedly sidelined in the Republican conference.

Mace also takes issue with Johnson’s leadership style and slow approach to bringing legislation to the floor. The South Carolina lawmaker is quoted as saying she is “exhausted by the constant drama and lack of bold action,” claiming he has failed to advance key conservative priorities.

Mace has also criticized Johnson’s reluctance to bring certain bills to the floor, forcing members to resort to discharge petitions — a rare and contentious tactic she views as a symptom of weak leadership. This ties into her reported desire for changes like more transparent vote scheduling to avoid such workarounds.

Shortly after the story broke, Mace disputed the retirement aspect of the report in an X post.

“Media catches one tiny piece of an overheard conversation and loses it,” the congresswoman wrote. “Confirmed: There’s frustration that discharge petitions are the only way to move things through the House. Confirmed: There’s frustration we haven’t codified Trump’s Executive Orders. We did Gulf of America. Cool.”

Mace went on to point to criticism of Speaker Johnson from Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and most recently, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), in order to indicate that she is not alone. “Not confirmed: That anyone is retiring. Goodness. And God bless!” Mace added.

The congresswoman definitely threw cold water on the retirement aspect of the story in a follow-up post.

“I loathe how slow Congress moves. I loathe we haven’t delivered on President Trump’s agenda. I loathe serious lawmakers aren’t taken seriously. I loathe the press making stories up. I loathe the politics of lies,” she wrote.

“Nowhere did I say I was retiring. Internet is wild. So too are those spreading this nonsense,” Mace continued, adding in another follow-up that her rumored retirement was a “big fat no.”
