House Democrat Al Green Vows to File Impeachment Articles Against Trump

Rep. Al Green said Thursday he will file new articles of impeachment against President Trump before the Christmas break.

He framed the effort as a test for Democrats on their opposition to the administration.

Impeachment Plan

Green said, “There will be articles of impeachment filed before the Christmas break. This, I pledge.”

He said impeachment “requires the hands and the guidance of all of us.”

He confirmed the motion will be introduced as privileged.

A privileged resolution forces House consideration within two legislative days.

The measure can be tabled before an impeachment vote occurs.

Protest Announcement

Green said he and supporters will hold a peaceful protest at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

This marks his fifth attempt to file impeachment articles.

His announcement comes as Democrats debate how to challenge President Trump.

Progressives have criticized Senate Democrats after the 43-day shutdown.

Some in the party have called for new congressional leadership.

Activist Pressure

Dave Mytych of FLARE joined Green at the press conference.

Mytych said voters want “fighters that hold the line.”

He asked, “Leader Schumer, are you listening? Leader Jeffries, are you listening?”

He said Democrat leadership is not pushing back hard enough.

He said the base expects a stronger response to President Trump.

Past Impeachments

The House impeached President Trump in 2019.

He was impeached again in 2021.

The Senate dismissed the charges in both cases.

Green said as many as 80 members supported his efforts before.

He said voting to table the articles is “voting against impeachment.”

Leadership Question

Green avoided saying whether the effort would reflect poorly on Jeffries or Schumer.

He did not reveal which impeachment counts he will file.

He said, “I believe in the Constitution.”

He said Democrats must “participate” in the process.

He said the vote will show where members stand.
