Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Monday moved to declare the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization and transnational criminal organisation. This designation allows for increased enforcement against these organizations, and their affiliated groups operating within the state.
CAIR, a nonprofit, prominent organization founded in Washington, D.C. in 1994, describes itself as America’s largest Muslim advocacy and civil rights group, and has over 35 local chapters across the country. The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Ismailia in Egypt in 1928 by Egyptian teacher Hasan al-Banna. It is a transnational Sunni Islamist group that promotes Islamist values in politics and society.
Muslim Brotherhood advocates the application of Sharia law in society. Due to its history of violence and opposition against secular government, it is considered a terrorist organization in many countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
On Tuesday Governor Abbott declared that the two groups will be classified as terrorists and criminals transnational organizations.
The Muslim Brotherhood, and CAIR in particular have made it clear that their goal is to impose Sharia Law and establish Islam as the ‘Master of the World’. In a recent press release, Abbott stated that the actions of the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR, to subvert laws and support terrorism around the world through intimidation and violence are unacceptable.
The Lone Star State will no longer allow either group or their affiliates to purchase land. The governor stated that “these radical extremists” are no longer welcome in Texas and will be prohibited from owning any property in the state.
The press release on Tuesday brought to light the long history of extremism and violence associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Abbott wrote: “Whereas Hassan al-Banna who founded the Muslim Brotherhood nearly 100 years ago professed that Jihad was an obligation of Allah to every Muslim that could not be avoided nor ignored’, Jihad meant ‘the fight of the unbelievers’, which included beating, pillaging, destroying the paces of their worship, and smashing the idols.
A number of Texas legislators had been advocating such a designation because of the rapidly growing numbers of Islamists infiltrating Texas. Some of these individuals have created plans to create an all-Muslim neighborhood just north of Dallas.
Chip Roy, a U.S. Representative from Texas who is running to be the attorney general of the Lone Star State in 2018, has called on Congress to pass legislation which would ban Sharia Law followers and crackdown radical groups. In a recent statement, Roy said that “America faces an existential danger — the spreading of Sharia law.” From Texas to all 50 states, Sharia Law advocates have threatened American life. They are trying to replace the legal system, the Constitution, with a non-compatible ideology which undermines women’s rights, the rights of children and those of other faiths.
This measure directs top officials, including Secretaries of State and Homeland Security, and Attorney General, to deny “any immigration benefit, Visa, Immigration Relief, or Admission to the United States, to any Alien who adheres Sharia Law.”
It also requires any foreign national who is found to adhere to Sharia law “will have all immigration benefits, immigration relief or visas revoked. They will be considered deportable or inadmissible and removed from the United States.”
