Dick Cheney has passed away at the age of 84. He was a conservative steely powerhouse that reshaped modern vice-presidency and led America to war in Iraq.
Cheney died Monday of complications due to heart and lung disease and pneumonia, according to his family.
The family stated that Dick Cheney had served the nation for decades. He was the White House Chief Staff, Wyoming Congressman, Secretary Defense and Vice President. The family said that Dick Cheney, a good and great man, taught his grandchildren and children to love their country and live lives filled with courage, love, respect, kindness and fly-fishing.
Cheney, a dominant figure in two Bush administrations and a quiet yet unrelenting force behind important national security decisions, was the silent but unrelenting voice that guided key decisions. He led the Pentagon to victory during the Gulf War when George H.W. As vice president, George W. Bush used Cheney to drive post-September 11 policy.
While battling an age-old heart disease that ultimately required a kidney transplant, he was able to effectively serve as the chief executive of the second Bush Administration, influencing intelligence, defence and executive power decisions.
Cheney did not apologize for his tough tactics after September 11, which included aggressive detention, surveillance and interrogation. George W. Bush, the former president of the United States, called him “a decent and honorable man,” adding that his death was a great loss for our nation.
Bush stated that “History would remember him as one of the best public servants in his generation – a patriot with integrity, intelligence and seriousness to purpose at every job he had.”
In the Trump years, Cheney has become a symbol of the conservative right that he helped to define. Liz Cheney – a fierce critic of Trump’s attempts to reverse the 2020 elections – drew him back into the political arena and open conflict.
In a TV ad for Liz Cheney, Cheney stated that “in the 246 years of our nation’s history, Donald Trump was never a bigger threat to our Republic.” He tried to steal last year’s election by using violence and lies to stay in power, after voters rejected him. “He is a coward.”
Cheney revealed that he backed Kamala Harria for President last year, a twist in politics unimaginable 20 years ago.
Cheney, who survived five heart attacks and was thankful to have another day, often spoke of his borrowed time. He once said that he always woke up “with a beautiful smile on my lips, grateful for this gift.”
The West Wing’s shadow boss reputation was also a part of his mystique.
He once joked, “Am I that evil genius hiding in the corner who nobody sees ever come out?” It’s actually a very nice way of operating.
