Kirk Assassin Charged with Aggravated Murder, Prosecutors to Seek Death Penalty

Utah prosecutors announced seven charges Tuesday against Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk.

Authorities confirmed they will pursue the death penalty in the case.

Arrest and Custody

Robinson, 22, was arrested last Friday for shooting and killing Kirk at Utah Valley University.

He is being held without bail while awaiting trial.

Utah County District Attorney Jeff Gray said the decision to seek the death penalty was based on the evidence and the nature of the crime.

Seven Criminal Counts

Count 1: Aggravated murder (capital offense)

Count 2: Felony reckless discharge of a firearm causing bodily injury

Count 3: Felony obstruction of justice for hiding the firearm

Count 4: Felony obstruction of justice for discarding the clothing he wore during the shooting

Count 5: Witness tampering for asking roommate to delete incriminating messages

Count 6: Witness temperating for demanding trans roommate stay silent, and not speak to police

Count 7: Commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child

Prosecutor’s Statement

“I am filing a notice of intent to seek the death penalty,” Gray told reporters at a press conference.

He said he does not take the decision lightly but believes it is warranted by the circumstances.

Motive and Associations

Authorities confirmed Robinson was romantically involved with his transgender roommate, Lance Twiggs.

Gray also revealed that Robinson’s mother said her son had recently embraced leftist politics and become focused on LGBTQ and transgender issues.

Messages and Confession

FBI Director Kash Patel said Robinson wrote a text message declaring his plan to kill Kirk.

“He specifically stated that if he had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, he would do it,” Patel told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Robinson later confessed in a Discord group chat, admitting, “It was me at UVU yesterday.”
