7th Suspect Arrested in Cincinnati Mob Attack

Police have arrested a seventh suspect in connection with the violent mob assault on a white couple attending a downtown jazz festival late last month. Gregory Wright, 32, was taken into custody Monday and charged with aggravated riot and aggravated robbery.

Authorities say Wright ripped a gold chain from a victim’s neck during the beating, then put the property in his pocket before filming the rest of the attack. He was booked into jail at 4:30 p.m., according to court and jail records.

Other Suspects Named

Six other individuals have already been indicted in connection with the attack:

  • Aisha Devaughn, 26, of Evanston

  • Dominique Kittle, 37, of Walnut Hills

  • Jermaine Matthews, 39, of East Price Hill

  • Montianez Merriweather, 34, of South Cumminsville

  • Patrick Rosemond, 38, of Reading

  • Dekyra Vernon, 24, of Evanston

Victims Speak Out

The female victim, who goes by “Holly,” says she is suffering from “very bad” brain trauma after being knocked unconscious while trying to help her boyfriend, who was stomped and beaten by a group of suspects.

Speaking alongside GOP Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno last week, Holly criticized Democrat city leaders for being soft on crime and allowing dangerous offenders back on the streets.

“He had just gotten out of jail previously for something he should have been in there for years,” she said of one attacker. “I can’t fathom how many other people have been attacked by the same type of man over and over.”

Calls for Accountability

Holly also condemned bystanders who recorded the assault instead of calling 911.
“The biggest thing that upsets me is the desensitization of humans,” she said. “There’s a brutal attack, and they think, ‘oh, cool, let me get my phone and record it.’”

She urged lawmakers to consider penalties for failing to help victims in life-threatening situations. “We need more police officers,” she said, calling for tougher judges and stronger law enforcement presence.

Federal Investigation Underway

The FBI and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division are investigating the attack.
