6 Indicted on Assault, Aggravated Riot Charges Over Cincinnati Mob Beating

Six suspects have been indicted in connection with a violent downtown Cincinnati attack in late July that left two people injured, including a woman who was knocked unconscious.

Each suspect faces eight charges: three counts of felonious assault, three counts of assault, and two counts of aggravated riot. If convicted on all counts, each could face nearly 30 years in prison.

Attack Caught on Video

Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich announced the charges Friday, saying, “What I saw on video is not the Cincinnati I know and love. These charges hold those involved in the attack accountable.”

Five suspects have already appeared in court: Aisha Devaughn, 25; Dominique Kittle, 37; Jermaine Matthews, 39; Montianez Merriweather, 34; and Dekyra Vernon, 24. A sixth suspect, Patrick Rosemond, 38, was arrested Monday in Fulton County, Georgia.

Rosemond is accused of striking the female victim, identified only as Holly, after she approached a man who was being attacked by the group to check on him. Holly was beaten and knocked unconscious, suffering severe facial injuries, including blackened eyes.

Public Safety Concerns and Justice Reform Debate

The Hamilton County Association of Chiefs of Police said it will hold a roundtable with judges, elected officials, and other justice system partners to discuss strengthening public safety, reviewing bail reform policies, and ensuring consistent sentencing.

“We must have the ability to see exactly how criminal sentences are being imposed, how bonds are being set, and which judges are making these decisions from the bench,” the group said.

NAACP Responds

The NAACP condemned the attack but cautioned against blaming Cincinnati’s Music Festival, which was taking place at the time. The organization also questioned why some participants identified in the video have been charged while “the verbal and physical initiator” of the fight has not.

Thank you for not referring to this vicious assault as a “brawl”. And while we’re being told it wasn’t racially motivated, we’re also being lectured it’s OK because someone used the N word. How does that work exactly? I’m sorry NAACP, no verbal comment justifies attempted murder of everyone who isn’t black.

WHY isn’t this being charged as a racially motivated hate crime?? If the victim was black and the SIX perps were white, half the country would be looted and burned by now! The 13% doing what the 13% do best. Too bad this poor lady won’t receive the justice she deserves.
