The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to table a resolution to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar.
The resolution targeted her controversial remarks made after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Vote Breakdown
The measure was blocked in a close 214 to 213 vote.
Four Republicans joined Democrats in voting to table the censure.

Those Republicans were Mike Flood, Tom McClintock, Jeff Hurd, and Cory Mills.
A vote to table prevents a measure from receiving a full vote.
It is a procedural tool used to sideline legislation.
Omar’s censure resolution was introduced as privileged by Rep. Nancy Mace.
Tom McClintock
Tom McClintock
Rep. Tom McClintock condemned Omar’s remarks but cited free speech concerns.
He called her words “vile and contemptible” but still protected by the First Amendment.
He argued censure is punishment for speech outside the House chamber.
Jeff Hurd
Jeff Hurd
Rep. Jeff Hurd also said Omar’s comments were “ghoulish and evil.”
He voted no, saying more speech is the answer to offensive speech.
Hurd added, “That’s what Charlie Kirk believed and practiced.”
Cory Mills
Cory Mills
Rep. Cory Mills faced a retaliatory censure from progressives.
But that effort was dropped when Omar’s censure failed.
He cited constitutional principles in defending his vote.
“We may not like or agree with what someone says,” Mills posted.
“But that does not mean we should deny their protected 1A right.”
Mike Flood
Mike Flood
Rep. Mike Flood told Fox News that the matter belonged before the Ethics Committee.
He said a censure should only be considered after a review.
Mace’s Push
Rep. Nancy Mace forced the vote by introducing the resolution Tuesday.
She accused Omar of smearing Kirk one day after his death.
Nancy Mace
Mace said Omar implied Kirk was to blame for his own murder.
She also accused Omar of reposting a video mocking conservatives.
Progressives defended Omar, saying some quotes were taken out of context.
Rep. Delia Ramirez said the resolution misrepresented Omar’s remarks.
Omar’s Response
She accused Republicans of trying to “villainize the left” for partisan purposes.
She said she condemned Kirk’s murder multiple times.
Ilhan Omar
After the resolution was blocked, Omar posted a statement on X.
“Thank you to my colleagues for having my back and not furthering lies on the House floor.”
“Appreciate them safeguarding first amendment protections and the usage of the censure.”
“Finally some sanity in the House.”
