Federal judge allows Trump to continue firing USAID employees

It’s just breaking that a federal judge has sided with the Trump administration, lifting his temporary injunction so they can continue firing USAID employees.

Trump has said USAID needs to be dismantled and this will allow him to do it.

A federal judge on Friday allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to proceed with its plan to remove thousands of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) employees from their positions.

U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols lifted a temporary block, permitting the administration to significantly downsize USAID staff. The decision includes ordering those stationed abroad to return to the U.S. within 30 days at government expense, leaving only a small fraction of staff in place.

The ruling follows a lawsuit filed by unions representing affected employees. The unions argued that the rapid dismantling of the agency had left some overseas workers cut off from emergency communication systems, particularly those in politically unstable regions like Congo, where staffers face threats of violence.

Nichols ruled that the unions’ legal challenge must be addressed under federal employment laws rather than through district court litigation.
