Trump Announces Major Trade Deal Signed with China

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the US signed a trade deal with China and that a deal with India may also be in the works.

He said that Trump administration officials have been “working overtime making deals with other countries,” and then added, “We just signed with China yesterday, right? Just signed with China.” However, he did not specify the details of the deal.

Trump then added, “We have one coming up maybe with India.” The comments were made while he was speaking at an event surrounding his and the GOP’s push for the “One Big Beautiful Bill” to pass through Congress.

“We’re going to open up India. In the China deal, we’re starting to open up China. Things that never really could have happened. And the relationship with every country has been very good,” Trump added.

He was joined by a number of lawmakers and Cabinet officials at the conference where he made the comments on the legislative package.

The deal that Trump said was signed on Wednesday comes after the Trump administration and China have been on tense terms because of the subject of trade.

Early in April the president launched a number of tariffs starting on “Liberation Day,” and China initially retaliated with their own tariffs on US goods.

In the weeks following, the US and China agreed to lower the tariffs, where the US lowered tariffs to 30 percent and China lowered to 10 percent as opposed to 145 percent and 125 percent.

He went onto speak about how the Big Beautiful Bill will benefit many of Americans because of tax cuts as well as spur growth in business.
