The FBI announced Tuesday it will officially move its headquarters out of the J. Edgar Hoover Building and into the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.
The move, led by FBI Director Kash Patel, follows his May pledge to shut down the Hoover Building, a longtime symbol of the deep state’s unchecked power.
“This is a historic moment for the FBI,” said Patel. “We are ushering FBI Headquarters into a new era… and providing our agents of justice a safer place to work.”
The General Services Administration (GSA) confirmed the decision, citing major savings to taxpayers by repurposing an existing building instead of building a new one.
Goodbye hoover — hello reagan
The Hoover Building, opened in 1975, has been falling apart for years. A 2011 GAO report called it “inefficient”, plagued by concrete decay and an aging water system.
Patel and the GSA said moving into the Reagan complex is the “most cost-effective and resource-efficient” option available.
“The Hoover building is a perfect example of government neglect and dysfunction,” said GSA Acting Administrator Stephen Ehikian.
Trump: FBI stays in D.C.
Maryland and Virginia spent years fighting to lure the FBI out of the capital, but President Trump blocked those plans, ensuring the bureau remained in D.C.
Trump also scrapped Biden’s $2.5 billion scheme to build a brand-new FBI fortress in Maryland — a project conservatives blasted as a boondoggle for Democrat donors.
The Reagan Building currently houses U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with space freed up after USAID was shut down and folded into the State Department.
Patel follows through on his promise
Before becoming FBI Director, Kash Patel vowed to close the Hoover building “on Day 1” and turn it into a “museum of the deep state.”
He also said the long-term goal is to break up the FBI bureaucracy and disperse agents across the country — away from the swamp of Washington, D.C.
